There are 7 phases to the exhibit development. Each has several activities, roles, and deliverables associated with it. Everyone will sign up for 2-5 activities. Some activities require one person, some require more. Each person must be responsible for at least two deliverables individually. Below this outline, you will find a simple list of deliverables sorted by date.
- Concept development: April 26-May 8
- Objective: determine overall theme and content plan. develop single sentence "big idea" for the exhibit. identify exhibit components, summary description, goals, and visitor operating requirements.
- Activities:
- manage concept development and arbitrate decisions-JASON
- research
- prototyping or playtesting
- Deliverables: KELLY, LACE, WHITNEY, JAISA, SHIN YU, ALEX
- Big Idea/main message (one sentence) - BY MAY 4
- exhibit summary description (one paragraph) - BY MAY 4
- visitor goals (one-line bullets, no more than 5, at least 3 are measurable) - BY MAY 4
- exhibit components with summary description and visitor operating requirements (paragraph bullets) - BY MAY 8
- explanation of why each component is included and how they function together - BY MAY 8
- Content development: May 4-May 22
- Objective: develop specific content assets (text, images, video, etc) to support the exhibition and deliver the content.
- Activities:
- manage content development and arbitrate decisions-LACE
- research
- prototyping or playtesting
- selection and assembly of any external content (e.g. objects)
- produce final content
- develop marketing plan
- interface with design and fabrication teams on content infrastructure and materials

- draft list of content assets - BY MAY 8
- final list of content assets (including marketing assets)- BY MAY 15
- marketing plan - BY MAY 15
- draft content produced - BY MAY 15

- Graphic Design: May 8-May 29
- Objective: design and produce graphic assets for the final exhibition and any marketing collateral.
- Activities:
- manage graphic design and arbitrate decisions-JILL
- develop conceptual look and feel for exhibit
- produce draft graphics based on initial asset list
- produce final graphics based on prototyping and team review
- Deliverables: WHITNEY, KATHRYN, LACE
- look and feel board (image and word collage evocative of the planned look and feel) - BY MAY 15
- draft exhibit graphics - BY MAY 22
- final exhibit graphics - BY MAY 29
- Interaction Design: May 8-May 29
- Objective: design and produce interaction structures to support any visitor actions per the visitor operating descriptions.
- Activities:
- manage interaction design and arbitrate decisions-KELLY
- develop interaction plan for each exhibit component
- prototype interactions
- produce final interaction infrastructure for fabrication
- Deliverables: WHITNEY, JASON, JULIE
- interaction plan for each component (detailed step-by-step of what visitors will do) - BY MAY 15
- recommendations for final interaction per prototyping - BY MAY 22
- final interaction design and production (unless requires heavy fabrication) - BY MAY 29
- Fabrication: May 22-June 3
- Objective: build things to support the content, graphic and interaction design.
- Activities:
- manage fabrication and arbitrate decisions-WHITNEY
- interface with content and design teams to develop materials lists
- source materials
- fabricate exhibit components (may be web and or physical)
- Deliverables: JULIE, ERIN
- detail (day by day) fabrication schedule - STARTING MAY 22
- exhibit components built - BY JUNE 3
- Installation: June 1 - June 5, deinstall June 8-12
- Objective: Put it all together.
- Activities:
- manage installation and arbitrate decisions-KYLIE
- install the darn thing
- de-install it
- Deliverables:
- exhibit open June 5-7 (tentative)
- Evaluation: May 8 - June 12
- Objective: support formative and summative evaluation for the exhibition.
- Activities:
- develop measurable evaluation metrics corresponding to visitor goals-JULIE
- where appropriate, develop evaluation tools for prototyping and formative evaluation
- develop evaluation tools for summative evaluation
- perform summative evaluation
- Deliverables:KYLIE, JAISA, ALEX, ERIN, NICOLE
- summative evaluation plan with intended metrics and tools - BY MAY 29
- summative evaluation report - BY JUNE 12
OTHER IMPORTANT ROLES:
- schedule manager (ongoing) - this person produces a usable version of this as a schedule and makes adjustments to the schedule over the project - ERIN
- wiki gardener (ongoing) - this person keeps the wiki well-organized and managed - JAISA
- university liaison - this person is the contact with the UW HUB Services team - LACE
- money manager - WHITNEY
- web manager (if necessary) - this person manages the facilitation of the exhibit on the web
- experience facilitators (if necessary) - program staff during the run of the exhibition - NICOLE
